My News, by "Mike"

Scroll down to read a copy of my most recent letter-to-the-editor in the EAGLE-HERALD on the marijuana issue in Menominee.

I take part in Wednesday evening sailboat races with my 1978 Lancer-29 sailboat, Menominee Marina, MMYC (M&M Yacht Club).  Named "Santa Maria" by my wife Laura, and said for Saint Mary, not Columbus' ship.  I have a heavy, for its size, boat with a fat keel so is slow in its class.  I have the biggest handicap in the fleet so all things being equal should typically finish last.  But all things aren't always equal; tactics, windshifts, and decisions made by other boats in the race.  On average I usually finish second to last, which means I beat a faster boat; and usually not the same faster boat.  Fun, challenging, and best of all beer left in the yacht club when I cross the finish line.

Sailing season is ending and my sailboat will be lifted out of the water and placed on its winter storage cradle before mid October.

Flying:  I have finally restarted lessons in the Piper Archer LX, after delay of seven months.  Just restarted in September, hope to solo it the end of this month, October, or early November.  The CFI (certified flight instructor) is only available on weekends and because of weather and other students the number of training flights I can get is limited.

Bicycle ride:  I am continuing every week the 10-mile bicycle ride with a group on Thursdays, and sometimes do another 8 or 10 miles alone or with someone on another day.  When it gets too cold or weather too bad for a bike ride, it will be a return to the treadmill many times in winter

Teaching:  I have started teaching again the faith formation "Catholic" (catechism class) 5th and 6th grade for this school year.

MOVE INTO THE CITY LIMITS ??

I am thinking of, considering, a move to live within the city limits of Menominee; from where I now live approximately 3 miles outside of the city in Menominee Township on the river.  I like my house and location, however since my wife Laura passed away I don't need a big house.  I feel I can be more influential for good city government by living in the city.  So I'm thinking of a move in spring or summer of 2026.  I'm looking to find an apartment or town home or condo for rent on the bay, or on First Street facing the marina with protected (garage) parking.
